The name Nh\u1ea5t Nam derives from Sino-Vietnamese characters from \u201cOne Vietnam\u201d (\u4e00\u5357), and is to be distinguished from Nh\u1eadt Nam (\u201cSun South\u201d \u65e5\u5357), the Vietnamese name for the ancient Chinese Rinan Han commandery in northern Vietnam. The \u201cOne\u201d expresses the \u201cunification\u201d of features of Vietnamese martial arts.[2] Ng\u00f4 Xu\u00e2n B\u00ednh formalised these features in his book on the basics of this unified approach in \u201cNh\u1ea5t Nam c\u0103n b\u1ea3n\u201d Volumes 1 and 2, (\u201cBasic Nh\u1ea5t Nam,\u201d c\u0103n b\u1ea3n means \u201cbasic.\u201d)\"<\/p>\n

According to the English Nh\u1ea5t-Nam Federation\u2019s website \u201cNh\u1ea5t-Nam was mentioned for the first time in sources dating from the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries.\u201d[3] However Vietnamese sources generally refer that the techniques were recorded centuries earlier, but the specific \u201cOne-Nam\u201d name dates the art to 1983.\"<\/p>\n

Nhat Nam was established in Russia in the 1990s and is also practiced in Lithuania, Belarus, Ukraine, Switzerland, and the UK. ( source: wikipedia).<\/p>\n
